They will work together to develop a multi-jurisdictional comprehensive (smart growth) plan that fulfills the requirements of the Wisconsin Comprehensive Planning Law enacted in 1999.  The planning process will take place over a three-year timeframe starting as early as April.

An advisory committee including representatives from the county, local partners, interest groups and citizens will be established to oversee plan preparation. There will be six major public outreach efforts, over the next 3 years, to obtain comments from residents including a county wide survey, open houses, informational meetings, visioning sessions, focus groups and public hearings.

For more information about the process and how citizens can get involved, please contact Debora Sielski, Washington County Planning and Parks Department, at 262-335-4445 or visit the County website.

Benefits of Muti-Jurisdictional Planning

Municipalities can benefit from cooperative and coordinated joint planning.  Planning together can:

  • Protect natural and agricultural resources

  • Improve the cost and quality of services

  • Improve intergovernmental relationships

  • Offer a more efficient use of planning resources
