Fallen apples

Like apples from a late autumn tree, Washington County 's farms are falling at an ever-increasing rate. With them we forever lose the food production, wildlife habitat, critical underground water recharge capacity and our beautiful rural landscape.

With its rapid growth, our county is in the spotlight. Will we ignore the obvious ... or bequest to future residents a legacy of vision and hope?

The proposal to use part of the county sales tax to preserve farm land is a step in the right direction.
