Washington County Residents Want Farmland Preserved
To most Washington County residents, protecting farmland is a value ranking up there with motherhood and apple pie. Local surveys conducted in Washington County show that preservation of farmland is supported by 70-80% or more of the respondents. Statewide surveys conducted by On Common Ground Foundation and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also show overwhelming support for farmland protection.
Politicians understand the depth of support for farmland protection as demonstrated by the promises to help preserve farmland made by just about everyone who runs for county office - liberal, moderate, or conservative. Our residents hold these views because they care about farmers, agriculture's economic impact and our agricultural heritage.
