History

In response to the rapid development of Washington County farmland..

2001-2002

  • The Ozaukee Washington land Trust, in cooperation with American Farmland Trust, met with local farmers to discuss the economic viability and desire to continue farming in Washington County

  • Contracted American Farmland Trust to prepare a Profile of Washington County Agriculture

  • Hired UW-River Falls to develop and administer an Open Space Public Opinion Survey

2003

  • Landowners, farmers, organizations, community leaders, educators and area businesses began to meet informally to discuss farmland preservation goals and objectives

  • Thinking that they could accomplish more if they worked together. they formally established the Land Conservation Partnership or "LCP"

  • Committee formed to create case statement and secure funding to hire a project coordinator
